Rwanda Ranks Among the World’s Top 5 Nature & Wildlife Destinations

Rwanda has been ranked the world's fifth most desirable destination for nature and wildlife at the 2026 Wanderlust Reader Travel Awards, placing it among the leading global destinations in a competition that attracted 251,461 readers and more than 8.2 million votes across different categories.

The recognition highlights Rwanda's growing international profile as a destination for wildlife tourism and reflects its continued investment in conservation and sustainable tourism.

The awards are organised by Wanderlust, a UK-based travel magazine established in 1993. Recognised for its coverage of responsible tourism, wildlife, culture and travel experiences, the publication has become an established voice in the international travel industry. Its annual Reader Travel Awards, now in their 25th year, recognise destinations and travel experiences based on votes from readers around the world.

Known as the Land of a Thousand Hills, Rwanda offers a range of wildlife and nature-based tourism experiences. Visitors can explore Volcanoes National Park, home to mountain gorillas, experience wildlife safaris in Akagera National Park, and discover the biodiversity of Nyungwe National Park, known for its chimpanzees and diverse bird species.

Over the years, Rwanda has continued to invest in wildlife conservation, habitat restoration and sustainable tourism initiatives. These efforts support the protection of natural ecosystems while creating tourism-related economic opportunities for local communities.

The recognition further strengthens Rwanda's position in the international tourism market and reflects growing interest in the country's natural attractions and conservation efforts.

As Rwanda continues to develop its tourism sector, the achievement reinforces its commitment to promoting nature-based tourism while preserving its wildlife and natural heritage for future generations.
