High Commissioner Johnston Busingye presents his credentials to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

On Friday 29th April at Buckingham Palace High Commissioner Johnston Busingye presented his credentials to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, who received the High Commissioner and his wife via video-call from Windsor Castle.

During the audience the High Commissioner delivered to the Queen a message of warm greetings and best wishes from President Paul Kagame, reaffirmed the strong relationship and partnership between Rwanda and the UK, and discussed the upcoming CHOGM2022 summit in Kigali.

After the credentials ceremony, a Vin D'Honneur Reception was held for High Commissioner in central London which was attended by Ambassadors, the Marshal of the Diplomatic Corps, friends of Rwanda and Rwandan Community Leaders from across the UK.

The High Commissioner addressed the guests and opened his remarks by stating "It was a privilege to have a wide-ranging conversation with Her Majesty the Queen. Of particular interest was the upcoming CHOGM2022 summit. Preparations are on track & we look forward to seeing many of you in Kigali, where you can expect a warm welcome"

The High Commissioner also spoke on the Rwanda-UK Migration & Economic Development Partnership, adding "It will prioritise the dignity and safety of migrants, whilst also investing in Rwanda's economic development– creating professional and personal opportunities for both migrants and Rwandans alike."
"Rwanda today hosts refugees from the region, the continent and from other nations such as Afghanistan. Intervention when people are in distress defines who we are as a country, and as a people."

"We also have a ground-breaking Visit Rwanda partnership with Arsenal Football Club. We want as many people as possible to holiday, stay or do business in Rwanda. Most of all we want everyone who comes to Rwanda to never forget their experience."

The High Commissioner concluded: "It is wonderful to see so many faces of friends from so many nations that #Rwanda enjoys cordial and strong relations with. I look forward to collaborating with you during my time in London and to strengthening the bonds between our countries.”
