High Commissioner Highlights Rwanda’s Journey of Reconciliation and Development at Ben’Imana Film Screening in London
London, 23 October 2026 – Rwanda's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, HC Johnston Busingye, attended the screening of Ben’Imana, a Rwandan film directed by Marie-Clémentine Dusabejambo, during the opening of the Film Africa Festival, organised by the Royal African Society at BFI Southbank in London.
In his remarks ahead of the screening, the High Commissioner highlighted the role of film and storytelling in preserving the memory of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, honouring the victims and educating future generations.
He also reflected on Rwanda's journey over the past three decades, noting the progress made in rebuilding the country, promoting unity and reconciliation, and advancing development. He emphasised that while Rwanda has come a long way, the country's story continues to unfold.
Ben’Imana explores themes of forgiveness, justice and reconciliation in the aftermath of the Genocide against the Tutsi, focusing on the experiences of survivors and the lasting impact of the country's history.
The film has received international recognition, winning the Caméra d'Or at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival and becoming Rwanda's first official submission for consideration in the International Feature Film category at the Academy Awards.
The screening also provided an opportunity to share Rwandan stories with international audiences and highlight the role of cinema in documenting history and encouraging dialogue.
